The gun slinger (sometimes called a leg ladder) is a simple yet comfortable and versatile hip harness

  1. Tie a single line into a square knot around the waist, directing the running end toward the outside of the body. Tug the waist rope into a V pointing toward the center of the thigh.
  1. Moving to the outside, wrap twice around the thigh, then make an X-friction.

Option: leg ladder:

After the X-friction, travel downward and again wrap twice around the thigh. Make an X-friction with the running ends directed downward. Repeat as desired, stopping before your last band is within two inches of the knee.

  1. After the X-friction, grapevine up the stem back to the waist wrap and circle the waist at least once. Some bottoms prefer more waist support, so if you have extra rope, circle the waist again.
  2. Make an X-friction around the square knot, capturing the waist lines to lock everything together.
